Many women notice a feeling of heaviness, dragging, or pressure in the vagina or lower abdomen when they return to exercise after having a baby. Often, it appears after running, lifting, or a long day on their feet.
Because this symptom can come and go, it’s easy to ignore or assume it’s just part of getting back into fitness.
In reality, this sensation usually means the pelvic floor and core are struggling to manage pressure and load during movement. Pregnancy and birth change how these muscles support the body, and returning to exercise too quickly, or without rebuilding strength and coordination first, can make symptoms more noticeable.
This doesn’t mean you shouldn’t exercise. Movement is important for recovery and long-term health. But it may mean your body needs a more gradual, structured return so symptoms don’t worsen.

Heaviness or pressure isn’t something you have to simply put up with. Understanding what’s happening and adjusting how you rebuild strength can make a real difference.
A pelvic floor assessment can help identify what’s contributing to symptoms and guide your next steps, so you can move and exercise with more confidence over time.
